Moseley couple jailed
A Moseley couple are in jail having been convicted of intending to pervert the course of justice. Seema Ali and her husband Mohammed Nawaz have each been jailed for two months.
In April 2007 Sema Ali was photographed and flashed by a Gatso speed camera in Newtown, Birmingham. Within 30 minutes Ali had driven to a police station (with her Mother in her car) and reported to officers that four men had tried to force her car off the road. When sent a notice of prosecution she changed her story to naming somebody else as driving her car. Her husband later gave a statement to police that he had witnessed another man driving his wifes car with her as a passenger. Police attempts to trace the man drew a blank.
Sentencing the newly-married couple, of Oakleaf Drive for two months at Birmingham Crown Court the judge also handed Ali a £60 fine and three points on her licence - exactly the punishment she had originally tried to avoid.
