Midland Golfers find their range with £2,000 charity drive

Deep-pocketed golfers made a mockery of the credit crunch by raising in excess of £2,000 for Round Table Children’s Wish at Moseley Golf Club.

The charity golf day staged on Friday and organised for the fourth year by Moseley Round Table, has now raised more than £9,000 for the charity which provides magical moments for children with life-threatening illnesses from all over the country.

Half of the total on the day was raised via an auction which included a signed snooker cue by six-time world champion Steve Davis, a meal for eight cooked and provided by golf day organisers Steve Traynor and Pete Hunt, a fourball at Ladbrook Park including being chauffer driven by Lady Penelope Chauffeurs and an entire custom-fitted set of golf clubs from PGA professional and leading clubmaker Nevil Bland of Brocton Hall, Staffordshire.

Joint organiser Peter Hunt said: “We have had magnificent support for this event from a number of sponsors without whom we would not be able to raise as much money as we have.

“We’re also indebted to the number of generous donations plus all the golfers taking part and ensuring the day was successful both on and off the course.”

The tournament, which featured 18 teams, was won by Phil Revel’s side (pictured) with 94 points, who have progressed to the regional final at Berkshire’s Donnington Grove on September 16. They will be joined by the runners-up, who were captained by Colin Brittle.

Both teams will be vying for a place in the final over the world-famous Brabazon course at The Belfry, Sutton Coldfield, where the eventual winners will win a UK golf break.

Julie Atherton, fundraising co-ordinator for RTCW said: “Round Table Children’s Wish grants wishes for children all over the country and so the support of golfers in this national charity golf competition is a wonderful opportunity to not just fundraise but also raise the profile of the charity in the hope that we find more children who might need our help.”

Round Table Children’s Wish welcome referrals from children aged from three to 17 who would like to have a wish come true. To make a referral and for full criteria call 01202 514 515 or log on to www.rtcw.org
