Handel 250 - a celebration

Celebrating the 250th Anniversary of Handel's death, St Mary's hosts a workshop for singers and instrumentalists exploring the composer's enduring legacy. Selections from Messiah, Chandos and Coronation Anthems, Organ Concertos and other works will be directed by Mick Perrier and set in historical context by Dr Bob Meikle. Altogether a fun and inspirational day's music making, culminating in an informal concert at 4pm.

Cheeky Monkey Comedy Show

Established in 1997. the Cheeky Monkey is the longest running pub based comedy club in the Midlands. See comedians close up here before they make it big - previous performers have included Ross Noble, Daniel Kitson, Jimmy Carr, Reginald D Hunter, Jimmy Carr, Chris Addison, Rhys Darby.
For the Moseley Festival, the Cheeky Monkey comedy club is hosting the Midlands Heat of 'So You Think You're Funny' competition. This comedy competition is the most prestitgious of national competitions. It has been running for 21 years - past winners include Peter Kay, Lee Mack and Dylan Moran. AND Tuesday's heat is the ONLY Midland heat.
The format is simple. 10 new comics perform for 7 minutes each, trying to convince the judges that they will go onto the next round at the Edinburgh Festival in August.
It fast and furious. Some are rubbish, some are brilliant, some are bizarre.
Hosting the show is Geoff Whiting. A brilliant compere who is worth the admission alone.

The Prince of Wales challenges other pubs in Moseley to a Tug of War contest, reviving a tradition that goes back to the 1908 Olympics when Britain won the Tug of War gold medal!
Collection buckets will be used. Each year the Prince of Wales raises funds for St Mary's Hospice, collecting over £1300 in 2008. This year they are aiming to raise over £2000.
